Over the past couple of years, there have been lot's of grumbling in the newspapers about the role of school boards and of elected school board trustees in the governance of school boards. However, there is little research on school boards as spaces for democratic engagement within local communities. It is in that perspective that we are putting together a roundtable discussion to explore variations in provincial school board structures and how this can impact opportunities for democratic engagement. We will take stock of some of the current challenges facing school board governance in Canada.
