ISA-Canada Professional Development Roundtable: International Relations Careers Beyond the Academy and Beyond Canada
With many doctoral and post-doctoral candidates considering careers beyond the academy and/or beyond the country – whether by choice or necessity - this roundtable draws together panelists with advanced degrees in international relations who work or have worked in government, nongovernmental organizations, the private sector, think tanks, and/or overseas universities. Participants will discuss their experiences in non-academic and/or overseas positions, the skills they think transfer most easily, and the challenges and opportunities they faced. In this participatory and interactive session, they will discuss the rewards of these 'unconventional' career paths, the adjustments involved, and opportunities for continued engagement with scholarly communities within and beyond Canada.
