Chair/Président/Présidente : Brenda O’Neill (English-language Co-Editor, Canadian Journal of Political Science)

Participants
Chris Robinson (Publishing Editor for HSS Journals at Cambridge University Press)
Tim Wilson (Executive Director, Research Grants and Partnerships, SSHRC)

The emergence of the open access (OA) landscape has not only provided greater access to academic research but also a level of complexity for academic researchers trying to navigate this new landscape. The panel offers an overview of the OA framework from a variety of perspectives. Tim Wilson (SSHRC) will review the Tri-Agency OA Policy for publications from funded research, as well as an update on SSHRC’s “Aid to Scholarly Journals Program”, noting recent changes that advance the OA model for supported journals. Chris Robinson (CUP) will review navigating OA as an author. Topics he will address include what to know about Hybrid OA, Gold OA, Green OA, APCs, CC-BY, and other acronyms, what the fees charged for OA publishing cover, how the costs associate with OA are covered, various financial models for Open Access publishing, and various innovations and new directions in OA publishing.
